Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH)

NEWAH has been working actively since 1992 in partnership with local NGOs to serve poor communities secure to basic services of water and sanitation and also strengthen the capacity of these partners to undertake further development activities. It has an executive body comprising seven members and is affiliated with the Social Welfare Council - the governing body of NGO sector in Nepal and is registered with District Administration Office.

NEWAH operates in selected areas of Nepal through its five regional offices located in five development regions of the country with over 146 professional staff. Each year NEWAH supports around 50-60 community based self –help water supply, health education and sanitation schemes throughout the country.

NEWAH-IRC collaboration since 1994

Collaboration between NEWAH and IRC dates back to 1994, with the start of the international action research project on community management of rural water supply. Collaboration in various training and research projects continued from there, culminating in NEWAH becoming a partner in the RCD programme in 2002.

Publications

Recent NEWAH publications include:

  • "Pani ra Sarafai" is a quarterly Nepali publication of water and sanitation sector news.
  • Blue pages is a collection of name, address, working area etc. of NGOs, SFDP, PCRW working in drinking water and sanitation sector in Nepal.
