Symposium on 'Water, Poverty and Productive Uses of Water at the Household Level'
Updated - Friday 16 April 2004
From 21-23 January 2003 the IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre, the Natural Resources Institute (NRI), the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), and the South African Department of Water Affairs and Forestry (DWAF) convened a meeting of minds to share experience and ideas about how small-scale productive uses of water at the household level can help to fight poverty. The symposium brought together a multi-disciplinary group of practitioners, researchers, and policy-makers from 14 countries across Africa, Asia, South and North America, and Europe.
The proceedings of the symposium include 20 case studies or papers, and an opening address by Mr Ronnie Kasrils MP, Minister of Water Affairs and Forestry in South Africa.
A statement records the most important findings, beliefs, and recommendations of the participants that were discussed at the symposium.
