The Thematic Group on Scaling Up Rural Water Services, of which IRC is one of the members, has drawn up a joint vision. In this vision they call upon all stakeholders to concentrate on “scaling up” the community management model to bring existing successes to many more communities. Several e-conferences on knowledge management (KM) have been hosted by IRC. Through them it became clear that we are all drowning in information, but thirsting for knowledge. In order to give you some guidance with KM plans in your organisation, IRC has compiled a TOP written by some of the mediators of the e-conferences.
Latest issue of Notes & News on WASH in schools
The key focus of this edition of Notes & News is on the role of creating an enabling environment that makes WASH in schools more effective. We start off with a Call for Action. The first article in Notes & News focuses on the latest work by IRC and Emory University for Dubai Cares on key aspects of creating a conducive environment in which WASH in schools programmes can thrive. This is followed by an article on the role of faith in WASH in (faith-based) school programmes. The last contribution is a 3 page article is on school girls and menstruation.

For those working on school sanitation and hygiene education (SSHE), this is an essential subject for the development of long-term, sustainable programmes. So far, very little has been published on it while at the same time many programmes are being transformed into more sustainable ones. This issue highlights some successful examples from different regions and organisations.
Launch of Water Integrity Network (WIN)

WIN has been formally launched at the Stockholm Water Week to support improved transparency and governance in the water sector worldwide. It will promote solutions-oriented action and coalition-building between civil society, private and public sectors, media and governments, and will advocate a range of anti-corruption activities locally, nationally and globally. Its founding members are IRC, Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), Swedish Water House (SWH), Water and Sanitation Program - Africa (WSP-AF), and Transparency International (TI). The latter is also hosting the WIN secretariat. More information can be found on their web site.
Learning Alliances background paper

The Learning Alliance approach is set up as an alternative for scaling up innovations in the water and sanitation sector. During the LA symposium from 6-10 June in Delft the underlying principles will be discussed. This background paper describes the key concepts and the current state of thinking.
