Framework for scaling up rural water supply

Currently there is little clarity about how to define and implement scaling up. This framework was developed by the Thematic Group on Scaling Up Community Management of Rural Water Supply, of which IRC is a member, to fill this gap. The aim of the framework is to contribute towards meeting the challenge of providing equitable and sustainable services to those who are currently unserved. It sets out the principles by which this can be done.

This IRC publication was first published in 1998 and has sold out. Now it is available electronically for the first time and can be downloaded in two parts; the main text and the references. This book has also been translated into French.
Get acquainted with the Learn@WELL knowledge management module
WELL is a network managed by the Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC), UK; IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre (IRC), the Netherlands; and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), UK, together with a number of Southern network partners. In this article KM is described briefly as well as how it is being introduced to partners in WELL (Water and Environmental Health in Developing Countries) through the Learn@WELL KM module. The article provides the rationale for the module and describes the main activities within it.

Info sheets on co-financing for ACP-EU Water Facility call for proposals

The EUWI Finance Working Group has produced a set of helpful key sheets. They provide information for applicants responding to the ACP-EU Water Facility Second Call for Proposals 2006. The key sheet series aims to provide guidance to various categories of applicants with regards to potential sources of co-financing. The ACP-EU Water Facility requires applicants to provide or ensure a minimum level of co-financing. This is essential for a successful application.
IRC papers on IDS-Water 2004 online conference site
From 10 – 28 May 2004 IDS-Water 2004 is running an online conference for the water industry to which IRC contributed two papers. The IDS-Water online event is designed to be used as an information resource.
IRC partner Cinara has a new web site

Cinara in Colombia, one of IRC’s partners, recently redesigned its web site. The new web site presents the latest developments in the water and sanitation sector in Latin America. It provides easy access to Cinara’s services such as the Bibliographic Alerts, Frequently Asked Questions and Cinara’s Documentation Centre. The Newsletter “Boletín de Noticias” produced together with IRC is also available online. Have a look.

Join the EMPOWERS E-conference on Integrated Water Resources Management

IRC is one of the partners of EMPOWERS, a collaborative partnership of a number international and national organisations in Egypt, Jordan and the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and Gaza. They are organising an e-consultation to share approaches, practical experiences and lessons learnt among practitioners and researchers. Particularly those interested in participatory implementation and planning for local water resources management and development are invited to join in.
