Background paper on measuring WASH and food hygiene practices

This background paper has been commissioned from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) to inform stakeholder discussion about the future goals, targets and indicators that should be pursued by the international community post 2015 in the area of hygiene. It covers three topics: handwashing with soap, menstrual hygiene and food hygiene. Section 4 deals with issues around menstrual hygiene management and has an extensive reference list on the topic.
Menstrual hygiene in Ugandan Schools

A project focusing on getting a better understanding on how students especially girls cope with menstrual management related issues in school. This project is funded by the Austrian Development cooperation. The main objective of this proposal is to focus on the improvement of menstrual hygiene management in schools for girls in Uganda. This project consists of two parts around the topic of menstrual management, namely: (1) the development of a booklet to menstrual management for school girls: finalizing design, printing and dissemination of booklet on menstrual hygiene for adolescent girls and secondly (2) to undertake a study to provide evidence on the impact of different menstrual hygiene and school sanitation and hygiene interventions on the class attendance and school drop-out of menstruating girls in rural primary schools in Uganda for advocacy action to improve the situation.
