SIASAR in Honduras
Updated - Monday 04 March 2013
SIASAR (Sistema de Información de Agua y Saneamiento Rural) is a joint initiative launched by the governments of Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama with the objective to develop an information tool which provides up-to-date information on the status of the existing water supply and sanitation services in rural areas. In practice this will entail that all water systems will need to be mapped and information needs to be collected on the status of the systems, the service delivered and the performance of the service provider. The aim of SIASAR is to better direct post-construction support activities and work towards improved sustainable services.
In 2012, the working group dedicated to the development and implementation of SIASAR has worked on defining the institutional arrangements for monitoring, both for the first inventory of all water systems in the country, as well as for the ongoing monitoring. The institutional framework for development and roll out of SIASAR have been finalised and have been articulated in an institutional guidelines document, which will soon be published.
Roadmapping activities for broader sector monitoring will take place in 2013.
