Extra session: Monitoring the enabling environment
On Wednesday 10 April 2013, IRC's Stef Smits will lead an extra session for symposium participants on monitoring of the enabling environment.
Monitoring the enabling environment
20 Feb 13
Several frameworks for assessing sustainable water and sanitation services have been developed over the last couple of years—some upon request from development partners to monitor their projects, some by research organisations, and some by implementing agencies. Often these frameworks monitor the enabling environment and attempt to answer whether conditions are in place to deliver WASH services sustainably. Many of the monitoring frameworks are of high quality and provide specific indicators and methods for monitoring.
Four frameworks will be presented in this extra session, which is led by IRC's Stef Smits on Wednesday afternoon 10 April 2013. The discussion will focus on the sustainable use of the frameworks. Is the life span limited to the duration of a project? Are they integrated in country-led monitoring systems? Who is the long term owner of the frameworks and the information gathered with them? What are the incentives beyond the project to use the frameworks?
