Workshop on "Scaling up rural sanitation and hygiene" - proceedings
A learning event on "Scaling up rural sanitation and hygiene" was held in Nghe An Province in Vietnam in November 2012. During the four-day workshop all countries in the SSH4A 1 project shared their experiences with the scaling up model developed in this project. The programme was divided up into four blocks: block 1 understanding scaling strategies; block 2 examples of scaling strategies in different countries; block 3 scaling up access to sanitation hardware and services in rural areas and block 4 country group session and wrap up. A field visit was on the agenda as well. All information on this workshop can be found in the proceedings.

Summary of the email (D-group) discussion on "Scaling up of rural sanitation and hygiene" which took place in 23 October - 19 November 2012. Issues that were raised where to what extent is a programme ready for scaling; is there sufficient consensus about the programmatic approach; large scale expansion cannot happen without institutional changes. Also it is clear that scaling up will need to include testing and adaptation of the methodology for new areas.
