Writeshops for Capacity Development

An abundance of innovative ideas and knowledge exist in the water and sanitation (WASH) sector, also in Uganda. Due mostly to a lack of time or confidence in writing skills, these insights are seldom put on paper and shared with a wider audience. To stimulate the distribution of knowledge that is generated in various projects and organisations in the WASH sector, IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre organises three day writeshops at regular intervals, started in February 2012. During writeshops sector professionals get support to write publishable outputs.

Writeshop Guide on Output Types and Style

14 Nov 12

In Writeshops organised by the Uganda Joint WASH Programme participants found it a challenge to define the type of publication, its purpose and the target audience. To assist 3-day Writeshop participants, a guide is available with suggested types of outputs and information on the scope, format, audience and examples for each of these outputs. Some guidance on writing style is also provided. The guide can be used by any organisation or project to define purposes and range of outputs that they wish to produce.

As a result of the writeshop, 21 outputs were created by the 21 participants from SNV Uganda, NETWAS Uganda, Caritas Gulu, the Uganda Rain Water Harvesting Association and IRC Uganda.
