Household level productive uses of water around Cochabamba, Bolivia
This case study on household level productive uses of water in Bolivia focuses on two key issues:
1) The importance of productive activities in household water use, and the associated contributions water makes to livelihoods, and
2) The potential for water resources conflicts over allocations for household level productive uses.
The case study was carried out around the rapidly growing city of Cochabamba in central Bolivia. The study areas were Tarata, a small town to the south-east, and Tiquipaya, which is located on the peri-urban fringes of the city.

Full research report by students from Centro-AGUA of interdisciplinary research in Tarata and Arbieto near Cochabamba, Bolivia, on the conflict between irrigators and the urban community over access to water from the Laka Laka Multiple Purpose Project for urban and peri-urban agriculture.

Recognition of livelihoods and economic activities in water services policy in South Africa
In the foreword to the new Water Services Strategic Framework (Water is life, sanitation is dignity published in September 2003) the South African Minister of Water Affairs and Forestry, Mr Ronnie Kasrils MP, echos a message which represents a key shift in the thinking on domestic water services.
