Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust (HIHT - Rural Development Institute)

A voluntary, non-profit organisation. It's mission is to develop integrated and cost effective approaches to health care and rural development that serve the local and underprivileged population. The outreach activities of the Institute are carried out by the Rural Development Institute in the areas of water and sanitation, health, education and livelihoods. Project examples: the World Bank aided Swajal water scheme, Government of India's Rajiv Gandhi drinking water mission programme and Himothan, a Tata funded water and sanitation programme. All the programmes have key components of community ownership and participation, safe water supply, environmental protection, health and hygiene and empowerment programmes.
