IRC team trains senior BRAC field staff in managing a five-year WASH programme

BRAC, the largest NGO in the world requested IRC to organise a training programme for its senior field staff in Bangladesh; mostly district managers who manage a project staff of around 1,500 people and an area with around 2.5 million people.
Workshop on Knowledge Management and ‘Capitalisation’ for the entire CREPA network

Five knowledge management plans for the CREPA network in West Africa were the major outcome of a one-week workshop on Knowledge Management and ‘Capitalisation’ for the entire CREPA network in December 2006. Two IRC staff members facilitated the workshop, which brought together 25 people from ten countries from the region.
Resource Centre Development practitioners use Skype for learning and sharing

IRC and resource centre partners have recently been experimenting with using innovative and cheap Skype voice, chat and text options on the internet to develop collaborative papers. IRC colleague Peter Bury, based in Italy, has been taking the lead with partners in South Africa, Pakistan and India.
Advocacy training for sector staff in Niger

CREPA and IRC provided advocacy training on water, sanitation and hygiene to 25 people from various ministries, local city authorities and NGOs in Niger. The two-day workshop on 14-15 July 2006 resulted in the start of an advocacy strategy on hygiene promotion.

From Electronic Distance Learning to E-learning

Lessons learned from a three-week Internet-based course in the water sector that IRC and The European Network University have developed, tested and run from 1999 - 2002. Dynamics in the water sector, private sector involvement is a hot topic in the water sector. It attracted 55 participants from all over the world in four courses in 2001 and 2002. This article discusses the development of this on-line course, its features, feedback of participants, costs and lessons learned for the future. It also discusses the challenges for EDL courses on cost recovery basis.

Electronic Conferencing and On-line Dialogue for Development Purposes

This paper reports important lessons learned in the organization, management and evaluation of 'electronic conferences' for development purposes. The lessons learned are mainly drawn from the experience of holding electronic conferences for practitioners in the water supply and sanitation sector in 1999 - 2000, as part of the OneWorld Water Think Tank series.
