WASH in Schools in Uganda

As more and more children can go to school in Uganda, SNV seizes this opportunity bring water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) lessons to 306 primary schools in 8 districts. To reach the estimated 385,000 pupils they will work through local capacity builders. In order to make sure that good results are achieved SNV advisors and local capacity builders will be trained by IRC staff with a vast experience in WASH in Schools.

The Uganda WASH in Schools Framework for Action

This framework consists of six key messages:

  1. Increased Investment in WASH in Schools now and for generation to follow
  2. Translate existing school WASH policies into action at the national, district and lower local government to support WASH in schools
  3. Involve multiple stakeholders in planning, implementing and sustaining WASH in Schools
  4. Demonstrate quality WASH in Schools programmes that yield a health school environment
  5. Monitoring WASH in Schools Programmes to ensure accountability and evaluate progress
  6. Contribute evidence that provides a solid base for informed decision-making and effective distribution of funds
