Global Environment Facility (GEF)

Updated - Tuesday 27 November 2007

The GEF was established to forge international cooperation and finance actions to address biodiversity loss, climate change, degradation of international waters, and ozone depletion. The three categories of water projects are: water bodies; integrated land and water projects; contaminants. These projects enable countries to recognize and learn more about the water-related challenges they share, find ways to work together, and undertake important domestic changes needed to solve problems.
