The Centre aims to promote and maintain academic excellence through generating knowledge on development issues in low income countries and pursuing collaborative research with institutions in the developing world. This work is undertaken in many specialist fields - especially rural development, land reform, gender dimensions of development, co-operatives, famine and food security, environmental policy, households and their survival strategies, NGOs, aid regimes and processes of democratisation.
