PILS - Learning in Sanitation Uganda till 2012
Performance Improvement through Learning in Sanitation (PILS) is a two year project funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA). This initiative aims at improving local level management and the provision of sanitation services in three districts in Northern Uganda. Referred to as ADA PILS, the project was launched in October 2009 and is jointly managed and implemented by IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre (IRC), NETWAS Uganda and Caritas Gulu in close collaboration with district and sub-county government and local NGOs. ADA PILS covers 2 sub-counties in each of the districts of Gulu, Pader and Kitgum. With the overall goal of improving sanitation and hygiene behaviour in rural households and schools, the approach is based on facilitated district and sub-county level multi-stakeholder learning through action research. The project builds on experiences and lessons from the LeaPPs programme carried out in the north-western part of Uganda and runs till 2012.
RiPPLE Phase 1
RiPPLE started as a five-year (2006-2011) research programme consortium with DFID funding to advance evidence-based learning on WASH financing, delivery and sustainability and to improve equity of access for the poor in Ethiopia and the Nile region. IRC was a core partner in its development. From September 2011 RiPPLE continues to evolve as an Ethiopia-based WASH resource centre (see www.rippleethiopia.org).
LeaPPS Uganda - completed
LeaPPS contributed to improved sanitation and hygiene programmes by sharing and learning at district and local levels. This programme ran in four districts of Uganda: Kyenjojo, Kamwenge, Arua and Koboko and has been completed.
West Nile Uganda WASH Accountability - completed
Supported by the European Union's European Development Fund (EU EDF) Improving Governance in WASH through local dialogues in West Nile, Uganda was a collaborative project led by IRC (The Hague), NETWAS-Uganda (Kampala), and CEFORD (West Nile Region). The project was implemented between December 2008 and December 2010. Its main objective was to give support in the development of accountable and responsive WASH services in selected rural communities in Uganda. The project geographically covered a total of six sub-counties in the districts of Moyo, Adjumani and Nebbi in the West Nile region.
