The thematic group on sustainability
This group was set up to evaluate and promote the sustainability of water systems with emphasis on those in rural areas. To get to sustainable water systems and sanitation it is necessary to strengthen local capacity and to influence policies that will allow an appropriate design, implementation, management and operation and maintenance of such systems.
Background and achievements of the thematic group on sustainability
In 2009, the initiative for this working group was born out of interest of FHIS, SANAA and AHJASA to review existing modalities to support sustainability of rural water supply services and to come up with strategies to strengthen them. The group has carried out a study on sustainability in rural water supply, which was driven by IRC under the umbrella of the Triple-S initiative.
Currently this thematic group is being coordinated by the regulator of water and sanitation services (ERSAPS), and counts with members from the Honduran Water and Sanitation Utility (SANAA), the Honduran Association of Water Committees (AHJASA), the Honduran Social Investment Fund (FHIS), the national supervisory board for water and sanitation (CONASA), the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) and the Peace Corps.
