First National Learning Forum, Kampala 12-13 October 2009
Uganda's Ministry of Water and Environment, the Sanitation & Water Knowledge and Learning Alliance (SAWA) and the international NGOs SNV and IRC organised the first National Learning Forum in Kampala on 12 - 13 October 2009. The four themes were: integrated water resources management, water supply, rural sanitation, and water and sanitation in schools.

On 12 and 13 October 2009 the First National Learning Forum was held in Kampala, Uganda. The participants of this first forum thought that it would be good to organise such an event twice a year, get more national government staff in and make sure that sharing of results leads to scaling up of good practices. Summary Note First National Learning Forum, Kampala

The first Water, Sanitation and Hygiene National Learning Forum Kampala, Uganda was held in October 2009. This learning forum brought some 50 professionals together from national and district level to learn about good practices and innovations in WASH. The presentations and discussions were structured around four themes: IWRM, Operation & Maintenance of rural water supply, household sanitation and WASH in schools. The forum created a good platform for critical analysis on factors of the good practices.

Daily Report First National Learning Forum, Kampala 12 October 2009

Cases were presented on integrated water resources management during the first national learning forum in Uganda on 12 October 2009. In five World Cafés key factors were analysed such as participatory approaches at community level; multi-stakeholder platforms; value of data, research and pilot projects; sustainability of basin; lack of resources and capacities. Another five World Cafés were created and participants moved from one to the other to discuss the issues they wanted. The main areas in the Cafés were: local management structures; HP mechanics and other functional associations; MIS and M&E; Learning Platforms; support from politicians and staff. Daily Report First National Learning Fourm, Kampala 13 October 2009

Government, NGOs and private operators met on the 13th October 2009, the second day for learning and sharing on sanitation in households and schools. This second day was different as the focus was on low cost technologies and use of manure, PHAST and Community Health Club approaches.
