IRC laying the foundations for Burkina Faso as a focus country in 2011
Updated - Monday 14 March 2011
This past October 2010, Christelle Pezon and Amélie Dubé, along with local IRC partners, Eau Vive and 2iE, hosted a brainstorming workshop in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, to introduce the implementation of Triple-S in early 2011. IRC’s aim is to implement this initiative in the Sahel region for the next 4 years as a component of the WA-WASH programme (as supported by USAID). Triple-S will focus on Burkina Faso, while the knowledge management and capacity building endeavours of WA-WASH will cover Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali and Ghana.
In previous years, IRC’s presence in Burkina Faso was known but not intensive. However, IRC intends to change that. Over the last 3 years, IRC has gradually been laying the foundations to turn Burkina Faso into a focus country. Recently, IRC has signed on to participate in a 4 year sanitation programme called SANIFASO with Eau-Vive, WaterAID, GTZ, Helvetas, and 12 communes.
With a widening network of local partners, including an ongoing partnership with CREPA, and recent formulations with Eau-Vive and 2iE, IRC is set to help improve the water & sanitation sector in Burkina Faso.
