Call to Action for WASH in Schools by 21 global players
Updated - Friday 29 October 2010
The Call to Action for WASH in Schools supports global efforts to make the vision shared by WASH in Schools partners a reality: a world where all children go to school and all schools provide a safe, healthy and comfortable environment where children grow, learn and thrive.
‘Join us in Raising Clean Hands for WASH in Schools', a Call to Action for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in Schools launched by 21 global players in New York and Stockholm in 2010 is a good example of effective global advocacy to which IRC contributed. It calls on decision makers to increase investments and on concerned stakeholders to plan and act in cooperation, so that all children go to a school with child-friendly water, sanitation and hygiene facilities.
IRC is among the 11 contributors to this new call for action through a brochure [1] and launch at Stockholm as part of our ongoing work on WASH in Schools work with UNICEF since 2000. Other contributors are: CARE , Dubai Cares, Emory University, Center for Global Safe Water, Save the Children, UNICEF, Water Advocates, WaterAid, Water For People, WHO.
Ten additional partners in this global initiative are: Alliance of Religions and Conservation, AED, Children Without Worms, CRS, EMF, Global Water Alliance, H2O for Life, IRHA, Millennium Water Alliance, UNSGAB, WaterCan.
IRC's involvement in this global call to action is on the knowledge hub and web site, which CARE is interested in using to spread lessons from its WASH in Schools programme in Kenya and Central American countries. The partners will meet again on 1 December 2010 in New York to map out further action.
