Role of civil society organisations essential for drinking water quality monitoring

Updated - Thursday 09 September 2010

Dr. Roshan Raj Shrestha, Technical Advisor for South Asia, UN-HABITAT says that civil society organisations are essential for drinking water quality monitoring.

He speaks with Rabin Bastola on various aspects of drinking water quality monitoring in urban centres in Nepal and UN-HABITAT’s efforts to support government and civil society initiatives. Watch and listen to the video.

He mentioned that the water quality monitoring is not going well in Nepal and there is lot to do. However, initiatives made by civil society organisations like ENPHO (Environment and Public Health Organization) for drinking water quality monitoring are going relatively well. The already locally produced simple test kits need to be further promoted and become cheaper in order to expand water quality monitoring in a sustainable way.

UN-HABITAT is supporting government and civil society efforts in doing drinking water quality monitoring.

This is one of the many videos already published on the Water Cube TV channel from Stockholm World Water Week 2010.
