Learning session #8 Arua (December 09)
Updated - Monday 07 February 2011
The 8th LeaPPS learning session was held in Arua town on December 3rd and 4th. It focused on how to continue coordination and learning between government and civil society agencies and advocate for continued attention to software for sanitation and hygiene. The session focused mainly on 'looking ahead ' to define future roles, responsibilities, potential financing sources, and modalities for continuing learning sessions and maintaining or replicating the piloted technologies.
YODEO presented how the feedback from the previous session had been used to improve the construction of the school facilities. During an exchange visit to Kamwenge District YODEO and two masons from West Nile gained first-hand lessons.
Participants visited Bileafe Sub County to observe the construction progress and to speak to users about their experiences with use and maintanance. The session ended with agreements for action. Several issues are to be taken to the District Water and Sanitation Coordinating Committee (DWSCC). For example: the need for monitoring the quality of workmanship in the district and O&M facilities especially in schools, the role of DWSCC in supporting learning, coordination and progress reporting and the need to build capacities and strengthen links with the WSCCs at subcounty level.
