Learning session #8 Koboko (December 09)
Updated - Thursday 02 December 2010
The 8th LeaPPS learning session was held in Koboko town on December 1st and 2nd. It focused on how to continue coordination and learning between government and civil society agencies and advocate for continued attention to software for sanitation and hygiene.
The session focused mainly on 'looking ahead ' to define future roles, responsibilities, potential financing sources, and modalities for continuing learning sessions and maintaining or replicating the piloted technologies. Participants also reviewed lessons from the action research on sanitation promotion approaches and low-cost ecosan technologies. Participants visited Lobule Sub County to observe the progress with the fossa alternas and arborloo and to speak to users about their experiences.
Honorary Omar Mahmud, secretary of Community Based Services in Koboko District opened the session: “Access to good sanitation and hygiene is a right for everyone. However, each individual has also an obligation before we can demand our rights. Our obligation is to put ourselves as examples to the community by establishing good facilities and behaviours in our home. SNV, NETWAS and IRC brought a pilot to make us aware, now it is to us to think what we can do as individuals to improve sanitation and hygiene in Koboko”.
