EUWI-Africa Working Group
The Africa-EU Strategic Partnership on Water Affairs and Sanitation is being implemented through the Africa component of the EU Water Initiative (EUWI). The purpose of this Partnership is to make an effective joint contribution to the achievement of water and sanitation related MDGs in Africa, principally through promoting an efficient and effective working environment. The Africa Working Group (AWG) was established in 2004 and has since then promoted and led the Africa-EU Partnership.
Briefing Note on Mapping EU Support for Sanitation in Africa
The Briefing Note “Mapping EU Support for Sanitation in Africa is based on a full study by WEDC. The purpose of the study is to obtain an overview of the status of the involvement of EU Member States and the European Commission in sanitation-related activities in Africa. It is anticipated that the findings of this work will have the potential to be used for both arguing for greater priority for sanitation within the international architecture and also for individual donors to use in discussing their own Official Development Assistance (ODA).
The full report is available on the EUWI website.

Briefing Note on Aid Effectiveness and Africa
The Briefing Note "Aid Effectiveness and Africa" is a document resulting from the EUWI-AWG Aid Effectiveness seminar held at the SWWW 2010. High-level declarations call for accelerated progress to meet water and sanitation targets. However, enormous challenges still exist for recipient countries to access and make effective use of aid. This Briefing Note lists a number of crucial issues that need to be addressed as well as recommendations for the sector.

Mapping European Aid to Africa: Summary of Findings of the EUWI-AWG Aid Mapping Exercise
A mapping exercise was conducted to obtain an overview of how the European Union Member States and the European Commission are allocating current and future official development assistance (ODA) to Africa among water supply, sanitation & hygiene and Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). The exercise takes into account the proportion of aid allocated to infrastructure against aid directed to sustainability components, as well as issues related to the Paris Declaration on aid effectiveness, alignment and harmonisation.
A full report is being prepared jointly with UN-Water Global Annual Assessment on Sanitation and Drinking Water (GLAAS), planned to be launched at the Stockholm World Water Week 2008. However, this summary of preliminary findings was prepared to be delivered at the Conference on Sustainable Development (CSD16) held in New York during May 2008.
