Full papers presented at the South Asia Hygiene practitioners’ workshop, 1 – 4 February 2010, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The workshop is organised by BRAC, WaterAid, WSSCC, and IRC and is part of five learning and sharing workshops on sanitation and hygiene organised in 2009 and 2010.



Stages of hygiene monitoring: an operational experience from Nepal

It states that full-phase monitoring of hygiene with backup by programme is the only evidence-based means to show the attributable contribution from WASH for reducing associated diseases and improving health status.

Who is responsible for soap in Pakistani school toilets?

Authors: Ayub Qutub, Fauzia Butt, Erum Bashir, Sobia Shabbi, Pakistan. This paper describes the results of a study conducted by PIEDAR which compared the observed and student- and teacher-reported hygiene practices in government and privately run schools of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The study shows that hygiene knowledge is common among the students yet hand washing with soap is not consistently practiced.
