Updated - Tuesday 19 May 2009
Staff of a number of organisations in Dolpa, Karnali Zone, western Nepal will lose their job if they do not construct toilets in their houses by the end of this fiscal year in mid-July 2009. Staff and management of Deprox Nepal and Decade Dolpa have agreed that employment contracts would only be extended if toilets had been installed.
Chief District Officer Dil Bahadur Ghimire has asked all staff to construct toilets in accordance with a request sent by the District Drinking Water Office to all offices, schools and organisations. The intention is to make the district an open defecation free zone. Currently, less than 12 per cent of the population in Dolpa use a toilet.
