Climate change working group
Climate change, and its potential impacts, is making headlines worldwide. But, will climate change also pose new or additional challenges to the WASH sector? Or, will increased investments in climate change adaptation be an opportunity for strengthening sustainability of WASH services? A working group is being established which will discuss these issues. This folder contains information about this working group.
Working Group on WASH and Climate Change Manifesto
The Working Group on WASH and Climate Change is made up of a group of non-profit organisations with interest and expertise in the links between climate change and impacts on water management needs of poor and vulnerable people. This manifesto sets out the key advocacy messages of the Working Group on WASH and Climate Change.
The group, hosted by the Water Supply & Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) includes: UNICEF, Tearfund, IRC (International Water and Sanitation Centre, group coordinator), IWA (International Water Association), WaterAid, the Co-operative Programme on Water and Climate (CPWC) and the Inter American Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (AIDIS).

Aide memoire meeting 6 Feb 2009
The meeting held on 6 February 2009 brought together some 10 participants from 7 WASH sector organisations who over the past year had been involved in discussions on the possible impacts of climate change on the WASH sector. The meeting sought to exchange experiences and approaches to deal with adaptation challenges in the sector. In addition, a discussion was held on the need to establish a thematic working group in the sector. See full report attached.
