Asia: Accelerated and sustainable progress in sanitation and hygiene is within our reach, hygiene experts say

Kathmandu (MPPW/SNV/IRC): Accelerated and sustainable progress in sanitation and hygiene is within reach in Asia, as long as we aim at district-wide coverage and build a broad alliance under leadership of local governments. This is the main conclusion of sanitation and hygiene experts from five countries (Nepal, Bhutan, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia) participating in a workshop on governance for water, sanitation and hygiene organized by the Nepal government together with SNV Netherlands Development Organisation and the IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre from 13 to 17 September 2011.

Gates Foundation backs €9.86 million reality check for water and sanitation costs by IRC and partners

What does it really cost to extend and sustain safe water and hygienic sanitation to poor communities in developing countries? The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is supporting the IRC’s project, WASHCost: Quantifying the cost of delivering safe water, sanitation and hygiene services , with a US$14.48 million (Euro 9.86 million) grant over five years to answer this question and to transform information, learning and performance in the sector.

UNICEF and IRC launch electronic Source South Asia

UNICEF’s Regional Office South Asia has teamed up with IRC to launch an electronic Source South Asia newsletter to serve UNICEF and IRC partners and readers in the South Asia region. The target group is water and sanitation professionals working in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
