Introduction
The IRC Source Water and Sanitation News Service (Source News Service) publishes a portfolio of electronic and printed news products targeted at audiences in the North and South, to increase the spread of information and knowledge about water, sanitation and hygiene services and issues worldwide.
Source products
The Source Water and Sanitation News Service is run in three languages (English, French and Spanish) by the IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre in collaboration with local partners.
Content
Each of the family of Source products is a mix of news summaries, general features, partner contributions, and readers’ opinions, expert interviews.
Target groups
Each of the Source News Service versions has a different language and regional target audience, while the electronic and paper versions cater for people who have greater or less access to electronic communication respectively.
Goals
The overall goal is to increase the spread of information and knowledge about water, sanitation and hygiene services and issues worldwide.
Added value
Many organisations provide information and there are many newsletters (paper or electronic) circulating in the sector. However, the Source News Service adds value to the information in a number of ways.
Style and quality
The Source News Service requires high quality decision making and skills in selecting and writing articles, in editing and in presentation. While criteria have been devised to help in the selection of news and feature articles, selection will always remain a matter of judgement by the editors.
The role of partners
IRC, CINARA and CREPA are the founding partners of the Source newsletter family. IRC is owner of the Source formula and co-publisher of the English, French and Spanish versions, which includes printing, distribution and the international ISSN registration numbers for serial titles.
Copyright
Source news items may be freely used for non-commercial purposes as long as due acknowledgment is provided to the IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre, the article concerned and the Source website.
