IRC and partners' work and the launch of the International Year of Sanitation

The International Year of Sanitation was kicked off in New York on 21 November 2007.

IRC and partners' work on sanitation and hygiene for the IYS includes:

- Our www.worldwaterday.org 2008 site is now ready for receiving your events on sanitation.

- We have created a new web page on IYS 2008 at http://www.irc.nl/page/38253 which we will regularly update.

- Our next Source Bulletin 50 has an opening article on sanitation: a story focusing on the effectiveness of Indian incentives for rural sanitation, at http://www.irc.nl/page/38348.

- Today is the final day of our learning and sharing seminar on rural Household and Primary School Sanitation and Hygiene in Moshi (Tanzania), Uhuru Conference Centre, see http://www.irc.nl/page/38254.

- With support from the WSSCC a second Community of Practice workshop for South Asia will be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in February 2008.

- IRC is part of the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance under which we are part of the community sanitation group and leading the school sanitation and hygiene education working group.

- IRC is a member of a consortium of Dutch partners working in line with NWP toward the "Dutch contribution to International Year of Sanitation 2008", which is going to be launched on 26 November with a special concert organised by Simavi in Zaandam.

- Two IRC inputs have been accepted for the sanitation special “Made in Holland” due out in February 2008.

- IRC has developed a sanitation reader for DGIS for the International Year of Sanitation.
