UNICEF and IRC launch electronic Source South Asia
Updated - Friday 31 August 2007
UNICEF’s Regional Office South Asia has teamed up with IRC to launch an electronic Source South Asia newsletter to serve UNICEF and IRC partners and readers in the South Asia region. The target group is water and sanitation professionals working in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Source South Asia will offer a readers’ digest combining unique regional news and a careful selection of relevant news from the international English version of Source, distributed by email and on the Source web site. Until the end of March 2008 some 18-20 issues will be produced. Should it be found to be a success, UNICEF and IRC will consider co-funding Source South Asia for another two years.
To facilitate the regionalisation of Source, IRC will identify a partner in South Asia to gradually take responsibility for the production of the newsletter. IRC will remain responsible for quality control, hosting the website, and editorial policy.
After publication of issue ‘zero’, the first 450 people have signed up so far. New subscribers are invited to join (see below). This development is very much in line with the wishes of the readers of Source news and features, as emerged from the last readers’ survey. The request for more regional news was expressed by readers from all regions.
UNICEF is the third partner to co-finance Source, after the Gender and Water Alliance (GWA) and Cap-Net came on board earlier this year. In 2008 a fourth partner, the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) will join the Source family.
