Latin America
The objective of the programme is to contribute substantively to the achievement of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) related MDGs in Latin America, as well as more generally to the provision of sustainable WASH services to the poor and the improved management of local water resources.
IRC and CINARA to assess impact of post-construction support on rural water supply services in Colombia
With the support of the Inter-American Development Bank, IRC and CINARA will look into the quality of service provision in forty water systems in the departments of Valle del Cauca and Caldas. The goal is to create a set of sustainability indicators for measuring quality of WASH service provision as well as the governance and performance of service providers.
Seminar on Sanitation and Governance
From 1 - 3 February, 2010 IRC organised together with RRAS-CA Red Regional de Agua y Saneamiento de Centro-America) and RAS-ES ( Red de Agua y Saneamiento de El Salvador ) a seminar to share experiences on governance of sanitation services focusing on the Central American region. The workshop took place in San Salvador and brought together 30 participants mainly from government organisations and NGOs. The workshop was funded by the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC)

IRC and the SWITCH project in Latin America
SWITCH is a five year research programme (2006-2011) funded by the European Union focused on sustainable Urban Water Management. IRC's contribution has focused on supporting stakeholder engagement processes in SWITCH cities and research on social inclusion issues. In Latin America these cities were: Cali and Bogotá in Colombia, Belo Horizonte in Brazil, and Lima in Peru. In this folder you will find links to governance studies carried out in some of these cities, the SWITCH city papers, which are based on evaluations that took place in 2010, as well as links to the city pages on the SWITCH website.
IRC inputs in Latin American Conference on Sanitation
From 12- 16 November 2007 several IRC specialists participated in the LATINOSAN 2007, the Latin American Conference on Sanitation, in Cali, Colombia, as part of our 2007-2011 work in the region.
Latin America and the Caribbean ministers confirm commitment to sanitation
Water ministers from most Latin American and Caribbean countries signed the Cali Declaration on Sanitation on 15 November 2007 at the Latin-American Conference on Sanitation. They also agreed to set up an inter-country working group that will monitor progress of their sanitation commitments.
