Ecosan: urine fertiliser yields bigger cabbages in Finland

Researchers from Finland report that urine treatment yielded cabbages that were bigger than those treated with industrial fertiliser and or none at all. The use of human urine also did not pose any significant hygienic threats or leave any distinctive flavour in food products (sauerkraut).

In Ibadan, capital of Oyo State in southwestern Nigeria schistosomiasis infection has been reported among children and adolescents in six Local Government Areas. Students of Advanced Diploma in Health Education (ADHE) of the Department of Health Promotion and Education, during a community diagnosis exercise among primary schools in two communities in Ibadan, met with this problem.
Child survival: housing, safe water and sanitation critical factors in urban Bangladesh

A recent study on rural-urban migration and child survival in urban Bangladesh shows that housing conditions and access to safe drinking water and hygienic toilet facilities are the most critical determinants of child survival in urban areas, even after controlling for migration status.
