Jamal Saghir: appointed Director, Energy, Transport and Water Department, World Bank

Jamal Saghir has been appointed to lead the Energy, Transport, and Water (ETW) Department in the Sustainable Development Vice Presidency of the World Bank, working under the leadership of Kathy Sierra, Vice President for Sustainable Development. All activities and responsibilities related to Water have been integrated and broadened to include all staff of the World Bank working on water, whether water resource management, water supply and sanitation, water for agriculture/irrigation, water for energy, water for environment, water quality. Responsibilities for the Transport Sector and for newly defined World Bank Water Sector Board encompassing the above areas have been merged with the Energy and Water Supply and Sanitation Department in the Sustainable Development Vice Presidency.
Sagir will continue to lead the Energy practice, broaden his responsibility in water to lead all freshwater related activities and programs and lead the Transport Sector. Three sector managers for Energy, Transport and Water sectors will be appointed . In addition, the Water Supply and Sanitation (WSP) and Bank Netherlands Water Partnership (BNWP) and Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) will be part of this ETW department.
