Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso
On February 5, 2004, a BUS demonstration project was launched by the Municipality of Bobo-Dioulasso in Burkina Faso, West Africa. The project aims to show that an efficient and effective provision of sustainable basic urban services can be delegated by the municipality to motivated small community-based enterprises.
Initiating Brief
The project document – or Initiating Brief – describes the context, the objectives, the expected results and activities, the approach and strategies of the participatory process, leading to the definition and implementation of the actual demonstration project.

Launching Ceremony
The launching ceremony took place in the heart of Sector 21, where a large crowd had gathered to listen to speeches by the Mayor of Bobo-Dioulasso and the UN-Habitat coordinator of the SCP-BUS initiative. A press statement was also circulated, presenting a brief overview of the project.
