Bachelor degree in International Land & Water Management, with a final thesis on Human Waste Disposal in Refugee Settlements. He has over ten years of professional experience in humanitarian emergency assistance, working for international NGOs particularly in Mozambique, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, India and Sudan. He has been in implementing, advising and managerial functions. Rutger joined IRC in September 2006 as Section Head INCO and has recently become Project Coordinator of the WASHCost Project.
