Key activities
After five years as head of IRC's then research department and member of IRC's management team, Dr. Sijbesma went back to field work on participatory management tools, hygiene, sanitation and gender. She is also active in institutional development and capacity building on socio-organizational aspects of participatory water supply and sanitation programmes and hygiene behaviour change.
Background
Christine Sijbesma is a sociologist with a MA from Utrecht University and a post-doctorate and PhD from Wageningen University. She has over 30 years experience in the social and health aspects of community water supply and sanitation programmes. Her specializations are policy development and the implementation of community participation and community management in rural and peri-urban water supply, sanitation and hygiene with a focus on gender and socio-economic equality. Her working experience is in all world regions except for the Middle East and the Pacific.
