Sri Lankan Demonstration Cities to Participate
The primary objective of this initiative is to strengthen the capability of the Kotte and Wattale Municipal Councils, and their partners, to develop effective public, popular, private partnerships to plan, improve and deliver basic urban services in un(der)-served areas. This will be achieved through assessing past demonstration projects, developing pro-poor and up-scaling strategies through participatory mechanisms, and packaging investment proposals for capital investment funding.
A secondary objective is to support an Anchoring Institution (AI) which would both share its expertise and learn from the demonstration process.
Sri Lanka Process and Experience Documentation

Since end 2004, two multi-stakeholder working groups in Greater Colombo (Sri Lanka) have been meeting and working on Basic Urban Service improvements with a focus on integrated solid waste management (in Kotte Municipality) and on waste water and solid waste management in a low-income settlement (in Wattala Urban Council). The very interesting process of working together as teams with all the challenges, constraints and the specific team results are documented by Practical Action.
