The Seventh Video: excellent advocacy tool

Updated - Thursday 24 January 2008

The Seventh Video on Community Water Supply Management produced in 2000 is an appeal to decision makers to support rural communities in their efforts to manage their water supplies. The video states that governments cannot leave rural communities with the full responsibility for the management of their water supplies. Governments possess the power and the means to create that support.

The Seventh Video has shown to be an excellent advocacy tool for decision makers, sector professionals and the general public. It has also been used in public awareness and advocacy training in various countries. See for instance the Water for African Cities training of trainers in 2004.

You may ask why this video was called “The Seventh Video”. Together with IRC, the six partner organisations in this project produced six country-specific videos on community water supply management. Local film directors were asked to make the video films. IRC was given the task to make a video film for advocacy purposes, using the material from the six country-specific videos. This became The Seventh Video.

IRC gratefully used the beautiful and interesting video material that was made in Nepal by Sushma Joshi, in Pakistan by Sabiha Sumar, in Kenya by Albert Wandago, in Cameroon by Cyrille Bitting, in Colombia by Consuelo Cepeda and in Guatemala by Alfonso Porres.
