Oldfield is Director of Partnership Development at Water Advocates, "the first US-based nonprofit organization dedicated solely to increasing American support for worldwide access to safe, affordable and sustainable supplies of drinking water and adequate sanitation".

The "world's first blog on sanitation" according to its authors Juergen Kikuyumoja Eichholz (student) and Sören Björn Rued (ecosan expert) who are both working within the ecosan sector project at German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) in Eschborn, Germany, who launched saniblog.org in November 2007 to coincide with the launch of the 2008 International Year of Sanitation.
