Updated - Thursday 03 November 2005

The Japan International Corporation of Welfare Services (JICWELS) distributes a translated version of Source Weekly to Japanese experts who conduct international cooperation activities in the water supply sector. An agreement was signed between JICWELS and IRC in June 2005 and on 1 August 2005 the first translated issue was sent out. As of 28 October 2005, the Japanese version is distributed via the JICWELS mailing list to 193 Japanese water sector experts and related persons.

JICWELS was established with the sanction of the Minister for Health and Welfare as a semi-governmental organization in July 1983. It carries out international technical cooperation programmes for the promotion of health and social welfare activities in developing countries. Topics covered include pharmaceutical affairs, health and medical care, water supply, waste management and sanitation, and social welfare and social insurance. Activities include project development, technology transfer and training. Between 1983 and 2001 JICWELS sent out 1622 experts to 72 countries.
