Water, Households and Rural Livelihoods: A guide to local water management
Updated - Tuesday 04 December 2007
This website is targeted at water sector professionals who are actively engaged in the implementation of ‘Integrated Water Resources Management’ (IWRM). The main focus is on local opportunities and actions to secure and build upon the universal needs of people for household water supplies.
The website provides a practical guide to local-level water resources management issues with a focus on semi-arid countries, tackling poverty, rural water supply, and how the IWRM approach can be put into practice at different scales. It is based on findings from a research project undertaken between 2000 and 2004 in India and South Africa. These are both countries where successful implementation of IWRM will be vital to ensure safe and fair access to water resources over coming decades.
The website includes tested tools and methods, case studies, short films, publications, photographs and other training materials.
A CD-rom with all the materials (in English only) is available and can be ordered via publications@irc.nl.
Target audience: practitioners and trainers working in water management and rural development.
