We too are sharing knowledge…
Dony Philip - Thursday 08 September 2005
This is Dony Philip from Socio Economic Unit Foundation, Kerala, India. Now I am working with IRC as part of the JPO programme.
I would like to share an experience from the community, where SEUF facilitating Jeevadhara, a community managed WatSan programme supported by the Royal Netherlands Embassy.
The Programme Support Group, which is the backbone of Jeevadhara, facilitated a local sharing on technology options, in the context of implementation of the programme. They invited not only experts, but local people who have the knowledge about the traditional water sources, who know the local construction practices, who have traditional knowledge on water conservation methods and a group of people who were capable of sharing experience from the past practices.
The result was amazing. This opportunity provides them to share the traditional technologies which are still helpful than the modern ones, and about the potable water sources which are unknown to the new generation. The people are really enjoying the sharing of information which they have, but never documented. The PSG initiated to document these practices and with the help of experts, they prepare a kind of reference note with sketches and descriptions.
I think this kind of local initiatives play a vital role in the knowledge management in project level.
Thank You…
With Regards,
Dony Philip
