Launched in 2002 to support developing countries to achieve sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation for the poor, particularly in urban areas. Bilateral donor funding has been received from Canada, Sweden, Norway and The Netherlands. Inititiatives which the Fund supports include the Water for Asian Cities Programme, Water for African Cities Programme, Lake Victoria Region Water and Sanitation Initiative and the Mekong Regional Water and Sanitation Initiative.
Community Development Trust Fund (CDTF) (Kenya)

Established in 1996, as a joint initiative of the European Union (EU) and the Government of Kenya (GoK) to support poverty reduction in Kenya through funding of community-based development projects. Water and sanitation projects are eligible for funding through the CDTF's Community Development Programme (CDP) and the Community Environment Facility (CEF).

Water Research Fund

Managed by the Institute of Water and Sanitation Development (IWSD), Harare, Zimbabwe, with initial funding from Sida, the Water Research Fund supports research projects addressing sustainable utilization of water resources in the Southern Africa region.
