Presents an overview of the problems of protecting drinking water sources, analyzes their causes and nature and identifies ways of controlling or solving them. Emphasis is placed on drinking water sources for small and medium size water supply systems and on the role of user communities in protecting such sources. Identifies priorities for country level activities and suggests ways to deal more systematically with water source protection.
