Case study: local government involvement in IWRM in South Africa
11 Jun 08
This case study analyses different forms in which local governments engage in IWRM in South Africa. It does so by looking at both the role of local government in catchment level institutions, such as catchment management agencies and catchment fora, as well as by analysing the application of IWRM principles in sectoral mandates of local government. It concludes that although local governments have an important role to play in IWRM, they often lack capacity to fully engage in it.
