Financing water and sanitation and Local government

Empowerment of local institutions and communities to plan within their means and optimise the use of resources is key for reaching the MDGs. This was the main recommendation to come out of the content streams on Finance.

If achievements in improved WASH services are to remain sustainable then at least 10% of the funds made available for achieving the WASH MDGs must go into strengthening local governance. This was the conclusion of the sessions on Local Government.
