Overview - RCD Ghana
TREND is a Resource Centre based in Ghana. The Group was established in 1989 as part of the International Training Network for Water and Waste Management. The history of TREND/IRC cooperation dates back from the early nineties. IRC at the time were contracted by TREND’s funding agencies to equip the Group with a full set of water and sanitation publications and literature. Since then, there has been collaboration at different levels. Most recently, the two Groups teamed up to provide training services for the Volta Community Water and Sanitation Project in the Volta Region of Ghana. The two Groups have also teamed up to plan for a number of projects in various areas such as sludge treatment, slow sand filtration and provision of hand pumps.
From Learn@WELL to KM@TREND
TREND has been actively involved in promoting Knowledge Management in the Ghanaian water and sanitation sector. Realising the need to also improve knowledge management within TREND itself, TREND has kicked off the KM@TREND initiative.
KM Assessment in Ghana, final report (July 2003)
In November and December 2002 TREND carried out an assessment of Knowledge Management issues within the sector. The outcomes of the assessments confirmed that the WATSAN sector in Ghana is little informed about the merits of KM and has very little capacity to develop in this area. The specific findings and activities to overcome these problems are discussed in this paper.
