Transparency and Accountability
IRC has a programme that supports improved transparency and accountability to reduce sector corruption through activities including advocacy, action research, dissemination of publications, events and training and advice.
IRC is also a founder member of the Water Integrity Network.
Water briefs for U4 Anti-Corruption Resource Centre
U4 is an anti-corruption resource centre for donors operated by the CMI Chr. Michelsen Institute in Norway. Recently IRC have prepared three briefs for U4 on the water sector. The briefs cover 1) petty corruption at the consumer/ provider interface, 2) links between corruption and institutional reforms in the sector such as SWAPs and separation of roles and functions, and 3) grand corruption in major infrastructure projects.

Participants attending the 'Strengthening Transparency, Integrity and Accountability: Preventing Corruption in Water' course will be able to plan anti-corruption initiatives in the water sector on the basis of the latest available research and evidence. They will be equipped with tools to use to understand the complexity of corruption in the sector, and tools and approaches to take positive, prevention-focused actions to improve systems of integrity and accountability.

Training and advice
IRC run a regular 3-day training workshop (in the Netherlands) on preventing corruption in water, as well as being involved in other training activities and providing advisory support to partners and clients.
